A return to the capital London and the Lee valley track and third outing for Russel this season in August’s BFTTA Open Competition looking to build on the past performances at the event with another 200m competitive run out.
And with the races seeded by times, and in the seniors category the usual strong competition expected.
In particular today’s 200m top seeded race had attracted none other than Marcus Lawler (born 28 February 1995) the Olympic Irish sprinter specialising in the 200 metres with a PB of 20.40 to add to the top billing.
At the gun it was a good clean start and the expected fast pace ensued with predictably Lawler just ahead of the pack coming out the bend.
Down the straight, the athletes running into the headwind at -0.4 m/s, couldn’t make up the distance to Lawler who finished in first in 20.63. Bailey Swift taking second in 21.01 and Tyler Panton third 21.07.
Russel held on for fourth and a very creditable time of 21.09 given the conditions and very little to separate the chasing pack behind Lawler.
A definite improvement on the seasons previous BFTTA open performances and results and pleased to be continuing to build the race momentum and form – another good days racing and looking good for the remaining outdoor season events.
